Pharmacy Technician certification exam is conducted by PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board). Candidate must be at least a high school diploma holder to sit for this examination. All accredited schools will ask for the high diploma before letting the student register for the test. Any institute, which does not ask for the high school diploma, is not a reputed institute or it can also be a fake institute. Secondly, the candidate should not have any criminal record to be eligible for this exam. The PTCB exam content is characterized under three functional areas- maintaining medication and inventory control- 22% questions, participation in management and administration of pharmacy practice- 12% questions and assisting the pharmacist in serving patient- 66% of questions.

A candidate can take a practice test from PTCB website at anytime. Practice test is available 24 hours of 7 days in a week. The PTCB practice test consists of 60 questions. The test provides feedback on three content-specific areas that is assisting the pharmacist in serving patients, participating in the administration and the management of the pharmacy practice, and maintaining medication and inventory. Each candidate can review his/her score after completing the test and can compare with the correct answers. The cost for each practice test attempt is around $30. Candidate should not predict the actual test result on the basis of the practice test result. The result in practice test and actual test may differ. The duration for practice test is one hour.
